This first series of oil paintings on photographs is a symbiosis within a single space, proposing a dialogue centered on the landscape observed along hiking trails on São Miguel. The routes presented are not merely physical places, but also experiences of movement, contemplation, and discovery.

Photography emerges as a trace of the encounter with the territory, capturing fragments of the paths, details of the vegetation, shifts in light, and signs of human presence in the landscape. Painting, in turn, moves away from a direct reproduction of reality to reconstruct these same experiences through memory and the filter of the artist who contemplates them.

In the second series, the change in scale, as well as the shift from oil to acrylic, allowed for greater freedom and subjectivity.

The “randomness of looser brushstrokes,” gestural variations, and unexpected visual effects of the paint generated forms and sensations that were not entirely planned.

Light and shadow in the works were conceived through memory rather than photographic imagery, which prioritizes the artist’s subjective experience over a faithful reproduction of observed reality.

In this approach, the landscape was reconstructed from memories, sensations, and impressions accumulated over time and along the paths traveled.
