The exhibition “A ILHA COMO NASCENTE”, by Teresa Gonçalves Lobo, brings together large-scale drawings with intense colors between red, blue and a few traces in black and some medium and small drawings in pastel and Indian ink, produced over the past two decades. Working within an abstract visual language, the artist demonstrates a masterful command of color, with particular emphasis on the assured yet delicate movement of the line.
In the beginning of this century, during a summer on the island of Porto Santo, gallerists Fátima Mota and António Macedo visited, for the first time, an exhibition by Teresa Gonçalves Lobo. They were deeply impressed by the quality of her drawing and by the beautiful photographs taken at Porto Santo beach, marked by a poetic exploration of light and shadow.
It is especially meaningful that, after two decades of closely following this artist’s work, this exhibition has now been scheduled. It will be on view to the public simultaneously with another exhibition by a Madeiran artist, entitled “Lourdes Castro: Existe Luz na Sombra”, at the Archipelago – Contemporary Arts Centre, in the city of Ribeira Grande.
